Shah Rukh Khan reflected on his 2011 superhero film Ra.One, calling it ahead of its time and hinting at the possibility of a sequel if director Anubhav Sinha decides.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan recently spoke at a Mumbai fan meet about his mega-film Ra.One, describing it as a project that “everyone would recognise as a superhero film with groundbreaking visual effects” but which perhaps didn’t get its due because audiences were not yet primed for its tech-heavy concept.
Khan said that if the film were released today — in an era of smartphones, gaming consoles and wider pop-culture acceptance of superhero visuals — the response would likely be far more positive. He explained:
“With Ra.One, I thought everyone would recognise it as a superhero film with groundbreaking visual effects… While it didn’t completely live up to those expectations initially, the film did well and many people loved it.”
He also revealed that he’s open to revisiting the project in a sequel, but emphasized that any such follow-up would depend on his original director, Anubhav Sinha. “If Anubhav ever decides to… because he’s the one who made it, and only he can make it again… we worked really hard on that film, and God willing, if the time ever feels right, we might do it again,” Khan said.
The story of Ra.One thus remains relevant in Khan’s film-journey, and this renewed interest may set the stage for a resurgence of Indian superhero cinema exploring new territories in scale and visual ambition.
