
Bradford will pay its respects to those killed or injured in conflicts around the world on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
On the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 o’clock 98 years ago the guns fell silent. The Armistice which had been signed six hours before brought to an end the Great War. On Armistice Day 11 November, people will gather at the Bradford cenotaph to remember, reflect and pray. The Very Reverend Jerry Lepine, Dean of Bradford will lead prayers at the event followed by a two minutes silence in remembrance, the Last Post and Revelle.
The Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Alun Griffiths will be attending the Armistice Day commemoration at Undercliffe Cemetery, where he will lay a wreath on behalf of the city.
There will be civic representations at the following 31 services to mark Remembrance Sunday on 13 November: Addingham, Allerton, Baildon, Bingley, Bolton Woods, Bradford city centre, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Clayton, Cross Roads/Lees/Bocking, Cullingworth, Denholme, Eccleshill, Greengates, Greenwood Park (Sandy Lane), Harden, Haworth, Ilkley, Keighley, Low Moor (Friends of Harold Park), Menston, Oakworth, Oxenhope, Queensbury, Shipley, Silsden, Steeton, Thornton, Tong, Wibsey, Wilsden, and Wyke/Low Moor.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Geoff Reid will be attending the service at the cenotaph in Bradford city centre before taking the salute in City Park. He will also be attending the service in Eccleshill in the afternoon. The Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Alun Griffiths will be attending the service at Greengates Parish Church.
It is an important year in which we commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme where thousands of Bradford Pals lost their lives or were injured, as well as marking the 60th anniversary of the Suez Crisis.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor, Geoff Reid, said: “The services of Remembrance are important annual events in the district. I hope people will attend to remember all those who have lost their lives, been wounded, have suffered or are still suffering in any way, due to past and present conflicts around the world."
