A trust which runs five academy schools in Bradford has been conned out of more than £77,000 in a cyber-attack.
It has been revealed that staff at Star Academies Trust transferred the money on 29 June last year to a fraudulent email account pretending to be one of the trust’s suppliers.
Star Academies managed to recoup around £38,000 of the money when staff released it was a scam, but the blunder still left the trust short of almost £40,000.
It is understood that, due to the sophistication of the attack, the trust was refunded by its insurance company with the total amount.
