On Thursday, 16 June, Bradford Council along with people from across the Bradford District will join together to remember the victims of the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando on Sunday, 12 June.
The vigil will be held in City Park by the Pavilion Café.
A vigil has been arranged by Coun Richard Dunbar and Coun Adrian Farley in City Park, which will also be attended by the Lord Mayor, Coun Geoff Reid, and the Leader of the Council, Coun Susan Hinchcliffe.
They will talk of their horror of the attack and their support for the victims, many of who remain seriously injured, and the families of those who were shot dead.
Local people are invited to come along with councillors and Council staff to the vigil which will take place in City Park, from 8pm to 9pm.
There will be a number of speeches and tributes followed by a minute's silence. People will also be able to light a candle by way of remembrance.
49 people were killed and a further 53 injured in this hate filled attack against members of the LGBT community. Bradford denounces such hatred and stands shoulder to shoulder with Orlando at this very difficult time. The Council has also been flying the rainbow flag and transgender flag in remembrance and the City Park fountains and City Hall clock tower will be lit up with multi-coloured lights from tonight.
Bradford has a strong track record in standing up against discrimination and hate of all kinds and in a statement on their website "we would ask that you stand with us in unison to show support and remember the victims in Orlando."
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Geoff Reid, said: "Bradford has a strong track record of standing up against discrimination and hate of all kinds.
"It is right that Bradford should mark this with a special event.
"Please do come along to the vigil to stand shoulder to shoulder with Orlando and show your support to the LGBT community at this very difficult time."
