Bradford District Police are issuing a warning after a couple of incidents where people have been in possession of an air weapon and are using it to cause fear of violence.
The latest incident two 16 year old boys were arrested and bailed on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence on Great Horton Road.
It is an offence for anyone under the age of 18 to have with them an air weapon or ammunition.
In another incident a 31 year old male was arrested for Possessing an Imitation Firearm with Intent to cause fear of violence where an air weapon was used to intimidate another road user. He was released under investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell of Bradford District Police said:“Possession of an air weapon is an offence for anyone under 18.
“All calls to police involving firearms are treated extremely seriously and as if it is a genuine firearm. If you do wave an imitation firearm around you, you could find yourself surrounded by firearms officers pointing real weapons at you.
“An air weapon is extremely dangerous; it is powerful enough to injure and kill in the right circumstances.
“I would like to remind anyone who thinks they can use a firearm or an air weapon to cause fear of violence will be dealt with robustly by officers. There is no place for weapons on our streets.”
