Bradford Council is expected to slash £950,000 from library budgets within the next year as cuts bite.
The following year the budget will be reduced by a further £1,050,000 as part of cutting measures for the Bradford Libraries and Museums and Galleries Services.
The council says it aims to retain all existing libraries and museums, though with reduced hours proposed for Bradford Industrial Museum and Bolling Hall.
Also proposed is developing existing libraries in Shipley, Keighley and the city centre to become ‘community hubs’ offering “a wider range of council and community sector services”.
Events are being held across the district at libraries and museums from Thursday 17 January, so that members of the public can find out more about the changes.
Events at libraries:
- 6pm on Thursday 17 January at Eccleshill Library
- 6pm on Friday 18 January at Ilkley Library
- 10am on Saturday 19 January at Keighley Library
- 3pm on Saturday 19 January at Shipley Library
- 6pm on Monday 21 January at Wibsey Library
