Two brothers who peddled crack cocaine and heroin have been jailed after West Midlands Police officers found £18,000 in drug profits stuffed inside bedside drawers.
Birmingham East Police’s Organised Crime Team executed a warrant in Bankes Road, Small Heath, on 15 January following information from concerned community members that Hassan Yousaf and Zain Islam were dealing drugs.
During the search officers found wads of cash hidden in two bedside cabinets and a car key that led the team to a BMW parked in a nearby street where cocaine and heroin with a street value of £15,000 was discovered inside a jacket pocket.
Forensic tests of the jacket returned a DNA hit to 19-year-old Yousaf while his fingerprints were also recovered from drugs packaging.
He went on to admit possessing drugs with intention to supply, plus money laundering, and at Birmingham Crown Court was jailed for three years.
His brother, 21-year-old Zain Islam admitted money laundering and was handed a three month prison sentence.
Investigating officer, PC Chris Hollands, said: “Local people were rightly concerned and disgusted that this pair were peddling drugs in their community.
“They did the right thing in passing those suspicions to us; we’ve acted on that information and now both have been handed prison sentences.
“Information provided will always be dealt with in confidence. If anyone suspects criminality in their community I’d urge them to call us on the 101 number or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
