
A 35-year-old man has been charged with a string of offences following an incident in Gleadless on Wednesday (13 April), during which a woman police officer was seriously injured.
Nathan Sumner, 35, of Plowright Close, has been charged with:
- attempted murder
- six counts of assault by beating
- a section 47 assault
- two counts of making threats to kill
- affray
- threatening a person with a blade in a public place
- production of cannabis
Sumner remains in police custody and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court today (Friday 15 April).
A woman PC was seriously injured while responding to a domestic incident in Plowright Close at around 7.50pm on Wednesday (13 April), where a man was reportedly armed an axe. She remains in hospital today with a fractured skull, broken leg and she lost a finger during the incident..
The PC and a second male officer were injured as they made attempts to arrest the man.
Three other officers, all men, were also injured as they arrested the man.

“The officers who attended in Gleadless were faced with an extremely dangerous situation and showed immense bravery dealing with a violent individual. Our thoughts are with those who were injured on duty and full welfare support has been put in place for all officers affected.”
