Reports have been circulating in the media that Bradford’s former Lord Mayor Councillor Naveeda Ikram was arrested yesterday in connection with a Police investigation into allegations of misconduct in a Public office.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police issued a statement which reads:
“A 42-year-old woman from Bradford was arrested yesterday in connection with allegations of misconduct in a public office, localism offences and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
"She has since been bailed pending further enquiries."
When contacted by Sunrise Radio Councillor Ikram confirmed her attendance at the Police station, she stated that the visit was part of a routine investigation which she was confident would prove her innocence when completed and furthermore hoped her statement to Sunrise Radio would put an end to what she called unnecessary speculation until the conclusion of the case.
A spokesman for the Local Labour Group declined to comment as Councillor Ikram is currently suspended by the Party.
