Friends Feeding Families aims to help families across the city with support food parcels.
The project by Shayaan Kader (Operations Manager, Fabric Freedom), Raj Parmar (Director, Sunrise Radio) and Naz Sheikh (Founder, Hope Yorkshire) is to reach out to families affected by food shortages during this lockdown.
Bradford is ranked the second most deprived local authority in Yorkshire and Humber.
- 15% of households are in fuel poverty
- 22% of children are living below the poverty line
Shayaan Kader “Seeing the news about families in particular children going hungry was heart-breaking. Along with our generous friends and the business community in Bradford, we have started momentum in trying to change as many lives of families in need as possible. We want to try to make food shortage in a household a stress they don’t need to take on themselves and are extremely grateful for all the help and support that the community has shown in the project”.
Raj Parmar said “Sunrise Radio is committed to assisting with initiatives and projects like friends feeding families and are honoured to have been approached to participate and contribute. I would ask those who are fortunate enough to do so to donate whatever they can.”
Naz Sheikh said “As a local charity we aim to deliver support services to those in need particularly children and women. The Friends feeding families project, organised alongside our partners reaffirms our commitment and ethos as a charity. In the current circumstances this support is even more vital”.
Lending support to the project is MP for Bradford West and Shadow Minister (Housing, Communities and Local Government), Naz Shah “it is encouraging to hear about the friends feeding families project. Any project which lends support to those who are struggling to feed their children is definitely a worthwhile cause and I wish the individuals involved all the best for the project and urge everyone who is able to donate to do so”
Local businesses and individuals are asked to donate to the project via https://www.justgiving.com/.../friendsfeedingfamiliesproject
