A man has been jailed after being found guilty of running drugs from Manchester to Cumbria.
Assim Ali of Lever Court, Prestwich has been sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to 9 years and 8 months in prison after being found guilty of possession of heroin with intent to supply, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of prohibited ammunition and possession of a prohibited weapon.
On Tuesday 18 August 2015, Ali was stopped by Cumbria Police officers in the Kendal area as part of a joint operation alongside the GMP Challenger Manchester team into the supply of drugs in the Cumbria and Manchester areas.
Ali was found to be in possession of a large amount of heroin believed to be destined to be supplied in Cumbria.
Following this seizure, officers from the Challenger Manchester team executed a warrant at his home address and found a large amount of heroin and cannabis with a combined street value of around £50,000 along with a quantity of prohibited ammunition and a Taser disguised as a torch.
Detective Inspector Tony Norman of Challenger Manchester said: “Ali is a habitual drug dealer who preys on vulnerable people. His network of drug dealing crossed county lines and the impact of it was felt both locally and in communities as far afield as the Lake District.
“Ali was targeted and successfully brought to justice following a dedicated policing operation by officers from Challenger Manchester supported by our colleagues at Cumbria Constabulary.
“Challenger Manchester is committed to disrupting and dismantling organised crime groups that not only operate in Manchester but also criminals that travel out of the area to ply their trade.
“We adopt a pro-active approach alongside our partner agencies to prevent organised crime and pursue those responsible for bringing misery to our communities. If you choose to operate as a criminal in Manchester and beyond we will pursue you and identify every available opportunity to dismantle your activity and bring you to justice.”
