Bradford Council is inviting people to have their say on plans to extend an order banning the anti-social use of vehicles in public spaces.
The Public Space Protection Order is due to be renewed, but the council needs to hold a consultation before this can be done.
The order bans any use of a vehicle in a way which could cause harassment, alarm or distress. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Excessive noise
- Danger to other road users (including pedestrians)
- Damage or risk of damage to private property
- Shouting, swearing at, or abusing, threatening or intimidating another person – including using sexual language or making sexual suggestions
- Any public nuisance to another person.
The order covers any space to which the public has access, including roads, car parks parks and green spaces.
Anyone failing to comply with the order could face a Fixed Penalty notice or fine of £1,000.
The consultation will run from 21 February to 20 March 2022. To complete the survey, click on this link: https://online1.snapsurveys.com/afsc0p
Cllr Abdul Jabar, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “Unfortunately, nuisance behaviour involving a range of vehicles, such as cars, quad bikes and motor bikes, is still a problem in our district and causes a great deal of distress to many people. We feel that renewing this order will help us to work with the police and other partners to continue to tackle this problem. We encourage people to have their say on extending the order.”
Superintendent Richard Padwell, of Bradford District Police, said: "We remain committed to working with partners to reduce the anti-social use of vehicles in Bradford District, and the PSPO is one of several measures which give us powers to take action against those who use vehicles in this way.
“The order complements the ongoing work of the Operation Steerside partnership, which continues to address road safety concerns in our district on a daily basis through enforcement and road user education.”
