A Huddersfield man who kidnapped a woman for hours and raped her on moorland has been jailed.
Malcolm Lockwood, 55, was found guilty by a jury at Leeds Crown Court in November 2018 of three counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, one count of kidnap, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of making threats to kill.
On 2 May 2018 the defendant followed the complainant down a path into woodland in Linthwaite, Huddersfield. He confronted her and assaulted her, punching her face several times. He then threatened to kill her, took her phone and then forced her under threat to go back to his car.
Once in his car he drove the complainant to the moors still threatening to kill her. They drove on and off for hours, ultimately parking in an isolated farm lane between Huddersfield and Manchester. There, the defendant committed several acts of sexual violence against the complainant.
He was sentenced on Thursday 17 January to 14 years and six months in prison.
Paul Brown from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Lockwood subjected the victim to a prolonged and terrifying ordeal during which she was in genuine fear of her life. The significant sentence imposed today makes clear the gravity of his crimes. Our thoughts remain with the victim and we hope that the sentence he has received today is of some comfort to her.”
