A local woman has made the headlines over the holidays, as she celebrated her 104th birthday.
Irene Avison, who is fondly known as Mary, was born and raised in Yeadon but now lives in a care home in Bradford.
Mrs Avison was married to Percy, who died at the age of 64. She had one son named Roy who also sadly passed away, at the age of 59.
In an interview Mrs Avison said: “My secret to a long life is dripping on bread. I have lived all my life on that and a hot cup of tea with plenty of sugar. I have only one wish this birthday, a gentleman friend aged about 75 who can take me out for dinner and to the theatre – as these are things I still enjoy.”
