A Manchester businessman has been ordered to pay £950, after being found guilty of blocking a road in Cheetham with fly-tipped rubbish.
Javeed Aslam admitted to failing to control commercial waste generated at his commercial unit, on Lord Street, Cheetham at Manchester Magistrates Court.
The fly-tip, on Elsworth Street, Cheetham, was found by officers working for Manchester City Council in October 2016. The rubbish dumped on the public highway was of such a scale that it had blocked the road to traffic.
On investigation, officers retrieved evidence linking the offence to Aslam and his company London Dream, an online trading business.
During a formal interview with the council’s Environmental Crimes team, Aslam admitted that he did not have proper arrangements in place for the disposal of his business waste, as required by law. He instead claimed to share an arrangement with a neighbouring business.
Aslam denied that all of the fly-tipped rubbish was generated by his business, but admitted that at least some of the waste had come from his premises.
