Flood gates are successfully in place for the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme along the River Aire and the Elland Bridge has been officially reopened, after the Boxing Day floods of 2015.
Three movable gates have been installed at Knostrop Weir on the River Aire, which can be lowered in hazardous conditions to reduce river levels and the threat of flooding, in the hope to shore up against the levels of damage which occurred over the festive period 15 months ago.
Elsewhere, the Elland Bridge in Calderdale, also a casualty of the floods, has been officially reopened. The £5.5m reconstruction project has reunited friends, families and local businesses from both sides of the town.
