A 36-year-old man who sent sexual messages to a teenage girl has been jailed for more than three years.
Aftab Hussain, also known as Amaan Hussain, of Holywell Place, admitted two counts of inciting sexual activity with a child, attempted witness intimidation and possession of cannabis at a hearing last month.
Today, Friday 22 April, at Sheffield Crown Court, he was handed a 40-month jail sentence.
Hussain contacted his victim, who was 15 at the time, in September 2015 via social media. His messages to her became increasingly sexual, despite him knowing her young age. Police found that Hussain, who worked as a take away delivery driver, met the girl and took her out in his car while he was making deliveries. He then went on to send her inappropriate messages online before threatening her with violence should she tell anyone about it.
Hussain was arrested on 16 September 2015 and during a search of his house, a quantity of cannabis was found. Investigating officer.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgibbons said: “I hope that the positive result at court today offers further reassurance to the victim in this case, as well as victims out there who are yet to come forward, that we will do whatever we can to bring these vile criminals before the courts.
“Hussain is now behind bars where he can cause no further harm and I hope this allows the victim, who has been so brave throughout the investigation and court process, a chance to begin to rebuild her life.”
Ian Thomas, Strategic Director of Children and Young People’s Services at Rotherham Council added: “This sentencing sends out a clear message once again to people who commit vile crimes like child sexual exploitation - you will be caught and you will be sentenced.
“These perpetrators cannot hide - even targeting victims through social media is a crime and this case shows this kind of behaviour simply will not be tolerated.
