A man died after he was given another patient’s medication from a nurse by mistake at a Leeds Hospital.
66-year-old Raymond Stott, from Beeston, was given amoxicillin in error on 4 April of last year and suffered an allergic reaction.
He died despite attempts by staff to save him.
Mr Stott was admitted to St James’ Hospital following a heart attack at his home. He suffered a second heart attack in hospital and was taken to intensive care before being transferred to another ward for 21 days.
It was known to staff that he was allergic to the drug which caused him to have the anaphylactic reaction which killed him.
An inquest in Wakefield heard how the nurse picked up the drug after dealing with a number of other patients for 20 minutes and then administered it to the wrong patient.
