Detectives have been given more time to question three people arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences last week.
Two men, aged 26, and a 29-year-old woman were all arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism. They will be questioned in the West Midlands for a further seven days after detectives secured warrants of further detention yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
A fourth man – Fazal Sajjad Younis Khan, aged 40 from Small Heath, has been charged with possession of CS gas; he has been bailed to a separate address with strict conditions to appear before Birmingham Magistrates on Friday 13 May.
A 59-year-old man remains on bail with strict conditions while the investigation continues.
Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale, who leads on counter terrorism for the West Midlands, said: "This complex and extensive investigation by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU) is very much on-going.
“We continue to work with the wider counter terrorism police network, MI5 and international partners to address any associated threat to the UK following the attacks in Europe. Our top priority, of course, is to do all we can keep the public safe here and abroad.
"Last week’s arrests were pre-planned and intelligence-led. There was no risk to the public at any time and there is no information to suggest an attack in the UK was being planned."
