A police officer has been left with a two-inch head wound as she tried to arrest a man in Moston.
At around 6.10pm on Tuesday 15 May, Greater Manchester Police were called to a report of indecent exposure on Dean Brook Close.
The officer attended and attempted to arrest a man but was hit over the head with a glass bottle three times and the man tried to run away.
Despite the assault – which caused a two-inch wound to the back of her head – she managed to detain the man, with assistance from the public, while waiting for backup.
The officer was taken to hospital where she required five staples for the head injury.
Chief Inspector Umer Khan of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “Everyday our officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect other people and, although the job always brings challenges, they should at least be able to go home to their families without injury.
“I’d like to commend the bravery of the officer who, despite a head injury, was still able to make the arrest and prevent other people from coming to harm. I’m pleased to say she is now recovering at home and our investigation into the indecent exposure will continue.”
