Restaurant allowed to reopen following Covid breaches

The restaurant on Liverpool Road in the city centre has been given permission to reopen.

Following prior warnings from Council enforcement officers, Akbar's was ordered to close last week (Friday 14 August) after it was found to have failed to implement social distancing measures, both inside and outside the venue.

Strict control measures have been agreed with the restaurant management, including implementing a pre-booking only system to manage customers congregating outside.

The restaurant will be closely monitored for the next three weeks.

     Wider measures include:

    • The maximum capacity of the premises must be restricted to 130 customers.
    • All customers must be seated unless in waiting areas, accessing tables or using toilet facilities.
    • The number of customers in the internal waiting area must be limited to a maximum of three groups - with a maximum of six customers in each group.
    • Tables within the restaurant area must be limited to a maximum of six customers at each table, with a minimum distance of 1m maintained between each group.
