Scrutiny Meeting Called As Concerns Over Changes To National Media Museum

An extra single item regeneration scrutiny committee has been called by Bradford Council to discuss changes underway at the National Media Museum.

It will be the only item on the agenda at an extra Regeneration Scrutiny Committee meeting on Tuesday March 29 at 4.30 - 6.30pm in Committee Room 1 organised by committee chairman Coun Adrian Farley.

Coun Farley said: "I have added this meeting into the work programme because of the public concern about what's happening at the National Media Museum. A lot of local people have objected to more than 300,000 images and artefacts moving to London and I am concerned about the decision making process and who was informed and when.

"MPs, Bradford Council's leader Coun David Green, Chief Executive Kersten England and leaders of political groups to the meeting will be attending and we invited David Hockney who is among 80 leading cultural figures opposed to the change, but unfortunately he is out of the country.

"I'm looking forward to the additional scrutiny committee meeting to hear about the work the National Media Museum are undertaking and about their commitment to our District."

National Media Museum Director Jo Quinton-Tulloch will attend the meeting to address concerns and speak about the £7.5 million investment plans for the Museum over the next five years.

Council leader Coun David Green said: "We have worked closely with the National Media Museum over the development of new galleries and have given financial support of a million pounds over three years to improve visitor numbers and experience.

"The National Media Museum is really important to our city both culturally and economically and we will continue to support its development, working with partner organisations and citizens."
