A 200 year old bank note has been returned to the museum it was stolen from 33 years ago. The £1 bank note, from 1819, was stolen from Padstow Museum in Cornwall in 1984.
The note was returned anonymously by airmail without any explanation.
Officials have stated they have very little information about the sender but can confirm It was posted from the Caribbean with no return address.
Museum chairman John Buckingham said “the tale is worthy of a TV drama, I was very surprised due to the length of time the note has been missing.”
The note is not thought to have a large monetary value however is valuable from a local history point of view.
