A new Youth Opportunity Index, published by the Learning and Work Institute, shows young people in Yorkshire and Humber have varying chances of success depending on where they live.
The institute claims young people living in the region have mixed education and employment opportunities compared to other regions, with local authority areas sitting at the top and bottom of the overall index rankings.
Hull is the worst performing authority in the region at number 149 out of 150 and the city is ranked relatively low across each of the seven index measures. In the rankings, Bradford places 116th.
At the other end of the chart, North Yorkshire performs well sitting at 15th overall. It is also third for apprenticeship take-up and 22nd for GCSE attainment.
Stephen Evans, chief executive, Learning and Work Institute said: “Our new Youth Opportunity Index shows that young people’s life chances are directly affected by where they live. This is a basic unfairness and this new report shows where efforts need to be focused.
“The Index shows how education and employment outcomes vary across the country and identifies the key opportunity gaps. We hope that it will help local authorities and others to prioritise their focus and target their policy efforts to ensure all young people get a good start and fair chance in life.”
