A thief from Fallowfield who stole an elderly widow’s card to fund her lavish lifestyle has been sentenced.
Amara Ahmed stole £28,000 from her 87-year-old neighbour over a period of four years. When Amara was out, the victim signed for the deliveries as a neighbour before handing them over to Amara. The victim was unaware her own card had paid for the items she had signed for.
Prosecutor Tim Greenald said “Amara had been a lifelong neighbour to the victim, who had even taken her to school as a little girl but in recent years Ahmed, of Avian Drive, Fallowfield, used the relationship to enrich herself, looking over her shoulder at her pin number when they were at a cashpoint together.
Amara secretly started to use the victim’s card for cash withdrawals and online purchases. She was discovered in August last year, when the victim showed her card to another neighbour who reported it to the victim’s son.
Amara Ahmed aged 24 has admitted to theft and was sentenced to 10months in prison.
