
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a large disturbance in Darnall in which a man is believed to have been run over and seriously injured.
Reports were received at around 7pm on Sunday evening (Sunday, 17 July) of a large number of people fighting in the Staniforth Road area of Darnall.
Officers attended and on arrival, and a man was found seriously injured in the street with injuries appearing to be consistent with being run over by a vehicle.
He was conveyed immediately to hospital where his condition is now described as stable.
Two men, aged 30 and 34-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The 34-year-old man has been bailed pending further enquiries, while the 30-year-old man remains in police custody being questioned by officers.
Detective Sergeant Cath Abou-Ragheb said: “Officers were quickly deployed to the scene and took control of the situation, dispersing a number of people from the area and making arrests.
“We will not tolerate violent disorder in our city and there will be a high visibility police presence in the Darnall area over the coming days to offer reassurance to the community and to provide an immediate response swiftly should there be any further incidents.
“If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information, I would encourage them to please come forward.”
