Bombay Velvet retains its position as Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest failure despite Jagga Jasoos’ debacle

With the manner in which Jagga Jasoos has performed at the box office, it’s easy to believe that this is his worst. But sorry to burst the bubble… for this isn’t a fact. Jagga Jasoos has stiff competition from Ranbir Kapoor‘s Bombay Velvet in the claim to be the actor’s worst film and loses royally.

In 10 days, it has still managed to make over Rs 53 crore but BV had wrapped up its entire run with just Rs 23.67 crore. No kidding! That is its lifetime collection and is thus Ranbir’s biggest flop ever!

Bombay Velvet released in 2015 and became the year’s biggest disaster. With the way the film was made, it was expected to earn a lot of money. The reason being India has hardly seen an out-and-out action romantic film, set in a bygone era. The first dent was made when reviews of the film slammed it terribly. None of the critics could appreciate it much and when the film released it got an underwhelming response at the box office. The film was mounted on a large scale. It was one of Ranbir’s most expensive films and it tanked badly. We doubt if any of his films will be able to drown the achievements of this actor.

Jagga Jasoos is still running at the box office despite dwindling numbers. The film is struggling at the ticket windows but is still hanging on. Strangely, the film didn’t really get too many negative reviews. In fact, Ranbir was praised for his performance and Anurag Basu for his execution. Word-of-mouth of the film wasn’t bad either, with many people recommending it to others. It remains to be seen how much the film will eventually make. But it clearly isn’t Ranbir Kapoor’s worse film.
