Bollywood is often accused of plagiarism. Be it copying scripts from Hollywood or any other film industry across the globe or lifting tunes for a song.
Sometimes Bollywood musicians grab the official rights of a particular song and use it in their films, like ‘Dildaara’ from Ra. But did you know Hollywood too has used several songs of Bollywood in their films?
While a lot has been written about songs like ‘Chamma Chamma’ being a part of Moulin Rouge, ‘Chaiya Chaiya’ in Inside Man and ‘Chori Chori Hum Gori Se Pyaar Karenge’ in The Guru, not many are aware of two of the biggest chartbuster tracks of Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan from the 90s being used in a Hollywood hit.
The songs are Akshay Kumar’s ‘Chura Ke Dil Mera’ from Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Aamir Khan’s ‘Pardesi Pardesi’ from Raja Hindustani. And the movie is none other than 2005 Hollywood cult classic V for Vendetta. The film starred Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman.
The song comes towards the end credits of the film. The track ‘BKAB’ by independent producer Ethan Stoller features excerpts of speeches by Malcolm X and Gloria Steinem and also samples the two Bollywood songs. The track has just a line from both the songs but their presence is felt throughout due to them being repeated.
