Jai Gangaajal, Baar Baar Dekho – Crowned as the worst movies of 2016

It's time for you to vote which of these movies of Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Tiger Shroff should get the desi Razzie.

2016 is the year that gave us some impressive movies like Neerja, Kapoor & Sons, Aligarh, Airlift and Dangal. It is also the same year, where Bollywood continued to mechanically churn out mindless and brainless entertainers, some of which even fail to entertain. There was a Housefull movie, which in my opinion was a better HF movie. We had three sex comedies this year, a genre that always used to work for our industry. However this time it didn’t work. This year was also the year of sequels and official remake; sadly even those failed to work.

So in this special feature, we will look at the most disappointing movies of 2016, that starred A-listers or rode on great expectations. So don’t expect movie like Shorgul, One Night Stand, Beiimaan Love and other of their ilk in this list. Frankly if you had expectations from these movies, we do pity your ‘good’ sense of movies.

So without much ado, here are what we think the 10 biggest letdowns of 2016.

Priyanka Chopra just had one release this year, and sadly it turned out to be a damp squib. We were excited when we learnt that Priyanka Chopra will fill Ajay Devgn’s shoes from the original, as a heroine is finally getting to do something that was always men’s domain – wear khaki and kick ass. However, JG turned out to be more of director Prakash Jha’s secret acting debut, as he has a more fleshed character. PeeCee meanwhile was reduced to being a one dimensional supporting character in her own movie. No wonder she is still committed to Hollywood.

Sanam Re is a not a movie; it’s more of a travesty. Sure, it boasts of some great music and beautiful locales, but the poor narrative and direction makes this shabby love story one of the worst movies of not just 2016, but the entire decade. It is surprising that the movie is directed by a lady, when it gets away with objectifying women, while making gay and fart jokes. But then the director herself appears in an item song in her own movie, so we have nothing else to say.

Mohenjo Daro should have been a game changer, since it was set in prehistoric period, directed by a man who has an Oscar nominee under his belt and was lead by a brilliant actor in Hrithik Roshan. But thanks to a convenient and unoriginal screenplay, and Ashutosh Gowariker’s total disregard to historical facts and continuity shots make this an expensive B-grade movie that we usually see on UTV Action.
