After facing a lot of hurdles, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat released on January 25.
Some states however continued with the ban considering the protests against the movie by the Rajput Karni Sena and other fringe groups. The film, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh is getting mixed reviews from cinema goers.
While a set of people are impressed with SLB’s narrative and the beautiful visuals, there are many, who just can’t stop talking about Ranveer’s brilliant portrayal of Allaudin Khilji. And then there a few people, who are of the opinion that the film glorifies the practice of ‘jauhar’ and ‘sati’.
Actress Swara Bhasker is one of the people who believes that there are a few problems with Padmaavat. She highlighted them in an open letter written for The Wire, in which she wrote that she felt “reduced to a vagina” while watching the film. The extremely long open letter went immediately viral.
