Shahrukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali to reunite and we have all the details...
Remember Sanjay Leela Bhansali had announced an ambitious biopic on Urdu poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi, back in 2015? Well, looks like the much impending film is finally set to roll with none other than Shah Rukh Khan in the titular role. Yes! Tentatively titled Gustakhiyan, turns out Bhansali met Shahrukh Khan recently and has almost finalised him for this film. As a source close to Mumbai Mirror confirmed, “Bhansali and SRK met late one night last week and the filmmaker handed over the complete script of the biopic to SRK, telling him that he would like to direct him in 2018. There is a lot of poetry in the film and SRK has been reading Sahir’s ghazals and nazms.” Now doesn’t that sound exciting?
For all the ignorant, Sahir – whose real name was Abdul Hayee, was famous for being in relationships with many women through the 1950’s-70’s, though he never married either of them. So the biopic will majorly focus on Sahir’s relationship with poetess-novelist Amrita Pritam, before he went on to court singer-actress Sudha Malhotra. But of course, that aside, Sahir’s contribution to Bollywood too cannot be ignored for he not only bagged his first Filmfare Award for his work in Taj Mahal in 1963, but also won another Black Lady for Best Lyrics for Kabhie Kabhie 13 years later. Blame it on his drinking and smoking habit, Sahir passed away at the age of 59.
While sources close to Shah Rukh have revealed that he’s likely to sign the biopic. It’s left to see who will be finalised opposite SRK to essay Sahir’s ladylove Amrita? Will it be Priyanka Chopra considering there were already rumours about SLB wanting to reunite with PC in a film? Or will it be his favourite muse Deepika Padukone? Or how about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan? Only time will tell.
Currently, Bhansali is investing his whole and soul in his much anticipated film, Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Keep watching this space for more updates on the Sahir biopic.
