Police in Karachi have arrested 11 people over the attempted assassination of the leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly.
Khawaja Izharul Hassan managed to escape shooting on Saturday, 2 September, when he was returning from prayers. Three people were killed in the cross fire, including one of the attackers, and four others were injured.
Officials believe the attack was carried out by a newly-formed militant group, Ansar-ul-Sharia Pakistan.
A police spokesperson said they are hunting the “mastermind” behind the attack, identified as Abdul Karim Sarosh Siddiqui, who was a former student of applied physics at the University of Karachi.
It is believed he was wounded in a raid before fleeing.
