The official dengue fever death toll in Bangladesh has now reached 60 following the death of an 11-year-old girl.
The girl, identified only as Tarin, died at 2:30pm in Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
She had originally been receiving treatment in Goshaighat Health Complex after being diagnosed with dengue fever.
However, she was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on September 12 after her condition deteriorated.
Following Tarin’s death, the official 2019 death toll from dengue is now 60, although unofficial estimates say the death toll is almost 150% greater at 149 deaths.
Directorate General of Health Services data shows 81,186 patients have been diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease so far this year, with 44,986 being diagnosed in Dhaka and 36,200 outside Dhaka.
According to reports, 2,546 patients are currently undergoing treatment for the disease.
