12 injured in Lahore student clashes

12 people were injured during clashes in Lahore.

10 students and two police officers were amongst those injured when a fight broke out between two student groups at Punjab University on Monday 22 January.

Reports say the violence erupted over the hosting of a welcoming party for newcomers to the university.

The students, who were allegedly armed with clubs and batons, were dispersed by officers using tear gas shells. A police van was also damaged in the incident.

The university has said as many as 35 students involved have been identified using CCTV and will be expelled.
