At least 13 people have been killed and 20 others seriously burnt in a fire that broke out at a plastic factory in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka this afternoon.
According to fire officials in South Keraniganj, The fire broke out at the tin-shed building of Prime Pattern Plastic Limited around 4:30pm.
10 Fire service units attended the scene and fully extinguished the blaze by 5:45pm.
The fire service officials recovered the charred body of a man and rescued a further 33 workers, who were taken to hospital. suffering with serious burn injuries.
Following the incident, initial reports from the Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital confirmed that at least 10 workers suffered 100% burns, while a further 20 suffered 70% burns.
Updates on the situation from Thursday morning revealed that, in addition to the first fatality, 12 further victims died as a result of their injuries.
