According to the woman's family, the attacker had been persistently harassing the teacher for a while.
The incident occurred a week ago as she made her way to work at a college in central Maharashtra state, when the man used a stick soaked with petrol to set her alight.
The young woman was put on a ventilator on Friday having sustained 40% burns to her body, with deep injuries on her scalp, limbs, back and face, but sadly passed away on Monday.
