A mob attacked 26 police officers yesterday (9 April 2017) and attempted to set one of them on fire in Kalyan, Mumbai.
The officers were attempting to arrest street thieves in the town of Ambivli, when they were set upon by what were believed to be family members of the suspects.
It is reported that the 25-strong group, comprised mostly of women, also poured kerosene on one of the police officers. Fortunately the officer managed to get away before the liquid was ignited.
The accused thieves, who were in police hands, escaped arrest due to the attack. It is the eighth such incident in the area in the past 10 years.
