At least 30 people were injured in clashes in Bangladesh.
Violence erupted on the streets of Narayanganj after the city’s mayor, Selina Hayat Ivy, arrived in the Chashara area to oversee the alleged illegal occupation of footpaths by street hawkers.
The hawkers had been driven out of the area by the city’s authorities and had been encouraged at a rally to stage a protest.
It is claimed Dr Ivy sustained a minor injury to her leg in the incident. Five others are believed to be in a critical condition.
