At least 82 shopkeepers in Lahore were arrested for demanding extortionate prices for tomatoes.
Local media claim a price control body, with powers from magistrates, raided various markets in the city on Sunday, 24 September.
Shopkeepers were found selling the vegetable in the region of 200 to 250 rupees for a kilogram, even though the price limit was set by authorities at Rs. 160.
Those found selling above the limit were reportedly fined Rs. 40,000.
It is believed the price inflation for the commodity has ballooned due to supply being badly affected, as the natural season for the crop is coming to an end.
