Aasia Bibi acquittal held up by Pakistan court

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has upheld the acquittal of a Christian woman in a blasphemy case.

The court rejected a petition seeking to reverse its decision to overturn Aasia Bibi’s conviction and death sentence.

She was originally convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad in a row with her neighbours.

The original ruling set off protests by religious groups and authorities are expecting further demonstrations following this latest development.
