An investigation into the Ahmedpur East oil tanker tragedy in Pakistan has revealed that the vehicle was not sufficiently checked by the Shell company whilst at a terminal.
208 people were killed when an overturned oil tanker exploded as locals gathered to siphon fuel from the wreckage.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority submitted a report to the Lahore High Court yesterday, 26 July, exposing a fake fitness certificate had been used for the vehicle.
The report added only 40 per cent of tankers operated by the Oil Tankers Association met safety standards.
Recommendations from the report have been forwarded to relevant institutions and the federal government.
