An army captain and two soldiers were killed yesterday, 27 April, when militants attacked an army base in south Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
It is believed that two militants were also killed in the battle.
Hours later a civilian was shot dead when armed forces opened fire on protesters who were demanding the bodies of the camp attackers to be handed over.
It is reported that another four people were injured at the protest as well as five soldiers from the first attack, who were transported to a local hospital.
The attackers are believed to have had crossed over from Pakistan and attacked the army base using guns and grenades, just before sunrise.
It is suspected that the attackers are fidayeen militants, though no group has yet come forward to confirm their involvement in the incident.
