BJP MP’s son arrested for assaulting journalist’s parents

The son of an MP from India’s ruling BJP has been arrested after a journalist’s parents were assaulted.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in Raipur of Chhattisgarh state, where Devendra Singh – himself an elected official – is accused of entering the house of journalist Sanjay Gupta.

It is claimed that, with Gupta not at home, Singh and a number of accomplices assaulted his parents.

The incident is believed to have been in connection with an article published by Gupta, which was critical of a water crisis in Sarguja district.
