Bus and car sink into hole in the road in Chennai

A bus and a car became trapped in a hole that opened up on a road in Chennai yesterday (9 April 2017).

It is believed the crater was formed due to the impact of a tunnel-boring machine, which was undergoing work for Chennai Metro Rail.

The bus was waiting at a stop when the driver felt some movement. Exiting the vehicle to check for a puncture he realised that the ground was sinking from underneath the bus. A passing car also became trapped in the cave-in.

Fortunately, the bus driver responded quickly to get his passengers off the bus and to safety.
