The Mumbai high court has granted a cosmetic surgeon pre-arrest bail in a case where he is accused of abetting the suicide of a model.
Shikha Joshi had committed suicide in May 2015. Minutes after being found with her throat slit in the bathroom of her roommate's flat, Shikha said a cosmetic surgeon was responsible for her actions.
Her brother accused the doctor, at whose clinic she had undergone a breast implant surgery, of abetting the suicide. He alleged that Shikha had lodged a criminal case against Dr Vijay Sharma for sexual harassment.
Dr Sharma claimed, in his application for bail, that his professional career has suffered due to the abetment case and that his "life has become meaningless".
His lawyer states that the doctor had also issued complaints to the police after he had received threats from the model and that there was nothing to suggest that the doctor either aided or instigated her to commit suicide.
