Death sentences for four criminals convicted of gang raping a student in Delhi have been upheld.
India's Supreme Court rejected the appeal from the men today, 5 May. They received the sentence in 2013, for raping and murdering a 23-year-old physiotherapy student in Delhi.
She was attacked on a bus that she had boarded with her male friend as they returned home from watching a film in December 2012. Her friend was also beaten up by the group of men.
The victim, Jyoti Singh, died from injuries in a hospital 13 days later.
The brutal crime led to nationwide outrage and the introduction of new anti-rape laws.
