Faith healer arrested in Pakistan child rape case found dead

A faith healer who was arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a child in Pakistan has been found dead.

7-year-old Zainab was found dead on a rubbish heap on 9 January in Kasur. The news caused protests in various cities, with two men killed by officers as the police headquarters in Kasur was stormed.

Baba Shabir was arrested around two weeks ago and was allegedly submitted to interrogation and DNA profiling for 10 days.

Shabir’s nephew claims his uncle went into a depression following release. Shabir was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room in what has been called by local press as “mysterious circumstances”.
