An Indian court has banned fireworks in Delhi ahead of Diwali.
The country’s Supreme Court brought the ban in during the lead up to the Hindu festival to see if it would make any difference to the capital’s air quality, ranked among the worst in the world.
Last year a choking smog in the city after the festival caused all schools to be shut for three days.
The ban on the sale and distribution of firecrackers will last until 1 November, with Diwali falling on 18 October.
However, those who have already bought fireworks will be able to set them off.
