
Former Indian Finance minister Pallanappian Chidambaram has had his judicial custody extended for 14 days amidst allegations of corruption
Subsequently, the 73-year-old will continue to be held at the Tihar prison complex in Delhi until 3 October.
Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on 21 August following allegations he accepted bribes in exchange for clearing foreign investments while he was finance minister, and consequently remanded in custody at Tihar jail from 5 September.
Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar allowed medical examination of Chidambaram, following pleas from the defence which stated throughout his 14 days in custody he had been suffering from various ailments and had lost weight.
