
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair an emergency meeting today to address a serious outbreak of Polio virus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the situation now deemed critical.
KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and the Chief Secretary Saleem Khan have been asked to attend the session, where they will receive a briefing on the situation from Babar Bin Atta, Focal Person to the Prime Minister on Polio.
Federal Health Minister and heads of international organisations will also attend the meeting to discuss the outbreak of polio in the region.
This year, polio cases have already exceeded the total number of cases from the previous three years combined.
40 polio cases were reported from 2016 to 2018, while 53 cases have been reported this year so far, with 41 originating in KP.
